Biography
Dr Biao Yang is a Research Associate in Accessibility Research Group of the Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering at UCL on a ESRC/NIHR project about pedestrian mobility of the visually impaired. Prior to this appointment, Dr Yang worked as a fully funded doctoral researcher in the Lighting Research Group of the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield on a EPSRC project about street lighting and pedestrian vision. He is currently a technical committee member of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) on TC 4-52 Lighting for Pedestrian: New Empirical Evidence, and an external reviewer of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research in Chile (CONICYT). He obtained an MSc from the Department of Illuminating Engineering and Light Sources at the Fudan University in Shanghai, China. During the three-year course, he was involved in two projects as postgraduate research assistant: 'Integrated Simulation Theory and Method of Human-Machine Ergonomics in Civil Aircraft Cockpit', funded by the National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Project), and 'Improving the Luminous Environment of Middle and Primary School Classrooms', funded by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. He obtained a BEng from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Xi’an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, China.
