Biography

Dr. Md. Shamsul Hoque obtained his B.Sc. Engg. Degree (Civil) in 1984 from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, M. Sc. Engg. Degree in Transportation Engg. from the same university in 1987 and PhD in 1995 from University of Southampton, UK. The title of his thesis was “Modeling of Signalized Intersection in Developing Countries”. Now he is the Professor at the department of Civil Engineering, BUET. His research interest includes: Non-lane based mixed traffic operation, Traffic signals, Behavior of pedestrian, Environmental impact of transportation, Application of micro simulation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Neural Network, and Genetic Algorithm (GA) in mixed traffic operation, Accident Investigation, Road Safety and Traffic Management. He is also Director of Accident Research Institute (ARI), and Test-in-Charge, Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTC) of Department of Civil Engineering, BUET. Dr. Shamsul Hoque has been extensively involved in wide varieties of civil engineering consultancy and construction projects in Bangladesh including road, flyover, interchange, inland container depot (ICD) etc.
